Managing different dashboards for different customers
Last updated: April 16, 2025
If you need to create and manage different dashboard versions for different types of customers or tenants, here are the recommended approaches:
Recommended Approach: Separate Dashboards
The best practice is to create separate dashboards for different customer types rather than using environment tags. To make this more manageable, use global datasets to share data between dashboards instead of managing datasets at the dashboard level.
Alternative Options
1. Editable Dashboard Sections
If your dashboard is mostly standard with some customized portions, or if you want completely custom dashboards that your users can customize, use editable dashboard sections. This allows you to:
Let customers customize their own dashboard views
Control which charts are available to different customer groups using group tags or individual customers
2. Hidden Components
For dashboards that are mostly standard with a few customer-specific elements, uou have the ability to hide components when embedding. This allows you to:
Create a single dashboard version
Selectively hide specific components for different customer types
Control visibility through your embedding configuration
Hidden components are not designed to securely hide data from customer to customer so we recommend using other methods and the customer management system to solve these use cases.
